The Nigerian National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has inked an agreement for implementing the start-up hub project with a consortium led by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In April of this year, Nigeria and JICA signed an agreement to promote innovation, support emerging companies, and build a modern facility equipped with advanced technological equipment and collaborative workplaces.

The project is made up of two key parts. The first phase, worth $11.2 million, will be implemented by NITDA, while the second phase, worth $40 million, will be executed by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, director general of NITDA, praised the agency's continuous collaboration with JICA, particularly through the iHatch initiative, which has already created over 117 direct jobs as well as 370 indirect jobs.

Inuwa additionally commended the collaborative efforts to strengthen ties between the Nigerian and Japanese tech ecosystems by facilitating exchange programs and creating an enabling environment for Nigerian startups to build thriving, globally competitive innovation-driven enterprises that contribute to economic diversification.
